Casey’s Sculptures

From the Boglands of County Longford comes the pretty village of Newtowncashel, winner twice of the “Best Village in Ireland” award.

It is here, near the picturesque harbour, along the shores of Lough Ree, that Kevin Casey & Michael Casey have spent collectively over sixty years producing sculptures in bog oak and other bog wood that have seen them become masters of their art.

Their work is known widely throughout Ireland and indeed around the globe with commissions regularly coming from people and organizations who are based far from the Irish boglands that have so inspired this father and son team.

As well as producing large commissioned pieces, smaller items suitable for gifts are also available with many on show at their studio located at Barley Harbour, Newtowncashel, Co. Longford. The studio is 2 hours from Dublin and 30 minutes from Athlone, Mullingar, Longford and Roscommon. The opening times for the studio are 9:00am till 6:00pm Monday to Saturday and other times by appointment. There is always a good range of small and large sculptures for sale. Each sculpture is accompanied by a certificate stating the title, wood, the bog from which the wood was reclaimed and the age of the wood, as authenticated by research and carbon dating at Queen’s University, Belfast.
